EXCHANGE SURFACES Flashcards

1
Q

name some common exchange surfaces in animals and plants

A

gaseous exchange between blood and alveoli
stomata for exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide
root hair cells - exchange water and mineral ions

Q

what do the alveolus have that makes them good for gas exchange

A

large surface area - for large gas exchange
moist lining - easier dissolving of gases and evaporation
surfactant coat - produced by lungs to lower surface tension and prevent alveoli from collapsing
