What are the methods to communicate with submarines?

What is a red (pyrotechnic) grenade?
May be fired by a submarine to indicate that it is carrying out emergency surfacing procedures or is on the bottom and unable to surface
What is a green (pyrotechnic) grenade?
A SM will fire a green grenade to indicate an attack using a conventional torpedo.
If two Green Grenades are fired, it indicates an attack using a nuclear torpedo.
What does Yellow flare / White smoke?
If a SM fires a Yellow flare at night or white smoke by day indicates the SM position (with the intent to surface if a further smoke/flare is released three minutes later)
What are the 3 procedures for Submarine SAR
SUBLOOK - Submarine safety report is overdue by one hour
SUBMISS - Submarine safety report is overdue by six hours or 3 hours for a single compartment submarine
SUBSUNK - Has positive information that a submarine has sunk.
