In 1991 Bush nominated Thomas who had sexual allegations against him and said that the senate judiciary committee done it because he was black. He was later confirmed in the senate.

In 2018 Trumps nominee of Brett Kavanaugh was in jeopardy by an accusation of sexual assault. This was on DR ford who said she was sexually assaulted when she was 15 and 17. Kavanaugh rejected these claims and trump went on to make fun of Dr Ford at his rally’s. After millions of advertising Kavanaugh was appointed by 50-48, the closest ever vote in the senate.

A

13 african american parents brought up a lawsuit after their kids were rejected by an all-white school

The parent were represented by Thurgood Marshall, the first african american supreme court justice

He asked the court to reconsider the plessy v ferguson 1896 ruling that created the jim crow “Separate but equal” law

The supreme court ruled that the separate but equal was in fact NOT equal and in 1955 ordered schools to stop segregation

A

James obergefell married his husband in maryland (Where gay marriage is legal) but the state of ohio(Gay marriage is illegal)(Ohio moment zzzzzz) didn’t recognize their marriage.

He made a challenge that reached the supreme court, focusing on the 14th amendment being “Equal protection”

The court ruled 5-4 in his favour

A

jane roe was an alias used to keep Norma McCorvey unanimous. She was pregnant in texas were abortion is illegal and got 2 young female lawyers to take a case to allow her to have an abortion.

After several years it reached the supreme court were it was voted 7-2 that women should be allowed in the first stage of a pregnancy to have an abortion.

Summary of gonzales V carhart (2007)

A

a challenge by doctors to the partial-birth abortion act 2003

This made it so women could not have an abortion when they were late into pregnancy and was signed by bush,

The decision was 5-4 in the act being kept and this got rid of abortion rights as women could not have that abortion.

All 5 of the judges that vote against it were catholic and the only women justice voted against the ban and said that the court has hostile to women’s abortion rights.
