Examine the differences between the conservative and republican party Flashcards
Health
Republicans are against government spending on the healthcare services and ere against Obama legislation ACA 2010, against universal healthcare systems. The conservatives in 2015 pledged to increase NHS spending by at least 8 billion pounds. They are in favour of universal state funded health care services.
Education
In 2017 the conservatives committed to raising the schools budget in England by 4 billion pounds, although committed to maintain tuition fees. Republicans believe in limiting the federal government role in funding education, they believe in getting rid of federal student loans
Social policy
Generally the conservative party is seen to be pro same sex marriage and pro right to choose when having a abortion. The Republicans on the other hand could be argued to be slightly more socially conservative, they are strong supporters of heterosexual marriage and many are pro-life supporters. Trump for example was supportive of the decision in Dobbs v Jackson.
