What are the uses of the dental mirror?
It allows for indirect vision, which also allows you to keep your posture, It can be used to reflect light, and it can also be used to retract soft tissue i.e. cheek,lip,tongue
What can be done if debris or water sprays on your mirror?
To remove debris or water from your mirror you can spray it clean with air and water or you can wipe it with cotton gauze.
What can be done if your mirror fogs?
To prevent mirror fogging you can warm the mirror on the patient’s cheek, use a rubber dam, or use an antifog solution.
What are dental explorers used for?
Dental explorers can be used for tactile sensation
detecting roughness, marginal gaps, and surface hardness.
What is a Periodontal probe used for?
Periodontal probes are instruments that are marked incrementally and slides between the gingiva and the tooth. It is then used to determine the gingival attachment and periodontal sulcus depth around teeth. Can also be used for measurement during cavity prep.
What are the two types of cotton forceps? What are they used for?
Forceps are used for picking up and placing small items.
1) College forceps(angled type) are used for contaminated items
2) Thumb Dressing Forceps (straight) are used for touching clean items in drawers.
What water source do we use in preclinic? In clinic, why?
In preclinic the water has a plumbed line. In clinic a bottle is used because of infection control. It has less chance of bacteria growing in the line and the water bottles and lines can be routinely disinfected.
