What does extension for prevention refer to?
Preps were made as large as possible and extended out past the carie in a hope of preventing future decay.
What is a class I lesion/prep?
Class I preps are are on:
- the facial,lingual, or occlusal surface of molars.
- The pits or fissures of premolars
- lingual surfaces of maxillary anteriors
What is a Class II lesion/prep?
Class II lesions/preps are:
- on proximals of posteriors(molars/premolars)
- form at or below contact area
- can form fromfood impaction due to lack of flossing
- these do not include anteriors
What is used to detect class II lesions and how are they prepped?
Class II lesions are detected with bitewing x-rays and you drop a box to fill them.
What is a Class III lesion/prep?
A Class III lesion/prep is on the interproximals of the anterior teeth and does not affect the incisal edge.
What is a Class IV lesion/prep?
A Class IV lesion/prep is on the proximal surface of anterior teeth but also involves the incisal edge.
What is a Class V lesion/prep?
A Class V lesion/prep is one that is on the facial or lingual in the cervical 1/3 of a tooth
- can be on anterior or posterior teeth
- can be cause by erosion,abrasion, or abfraction
- may involve the root
What is a Class VI lesion/prep?
A Class VI lesion/prep is caries on the incisal edge of anterior teeth or the cusps of posterior teeth.
