what is urbanisation?
a rise in the percentage of people living in urban areas, compared to rural
what is formal employment?
jobs where people work regular pay, have employment rights and pays taxes. e.g. teaching
what is informal employment?
unofficial work, without regular pay or employment rights and no payment of taxes. e.g. sweeping streets
what are major reasons for urbanisation?
- limited to open space available
- lots of transport
- very accessible
what is the quality of life like in the central business district (CBD)?
- very accessible
- crowded
- lots of transport
what is the quality of life like in the inner city?
- many houses
- area tends to be run down
- close to CBD
what is the quality of life like in the suburbs?
- many semi-detached housing
- good housing(gardens, terraces, garages)
what is the quality of life like in the rural-urban fringe?
-contains better quality housing

-not a lot of transport

what are the challenges of a megacity?
- pollution(noise&air)
- not enough housing(development of slums)

how does a tsunami form?
series of extremely long waves caused by a large and sudden displacement of the ocean.
what are the natural causes of climate change?
- sea levels rising
- wildfires
- polar ice caps are melting
what do tropical storms need to develop?
warm sea temperatures and strong warm winds.
why might a tropical storm loose its energy?
- when it moves to areas lower than 26.5 degrees
- runs into other weather systems
what is the structure of the Earth?
inner core, outer core, mantle, crust

- number of deaths
