Exam vocab words chapter nine Flashcards
Parametric test
A statistical procedure that requires that the characteristic studied be normally distributed in the population and that the researcher have interval data.
Nonparametric test
A statistical procedure that makes no assumptions about the way the characteristic being studied is distributed in the population and requires only ordinal or nominal data.
Power of a test
The ability of a statistical test to reject the null hypothesis when it is actually false and should be rejected.
Observed frequencies
In a chi-square analysis, the results that are actually observed when conducting a study.
Expected frequencies
The cell frequencies expected under the terms of the null hypothesis for chi-square.
Chi-square test
A non-parametric test of significance whereby expected frequencies are compared against observed frequencies, one-way and two-way.
Median test
A nonparametric test of significance for determining the probability that two random samples have been drawn from populations with the same median.
