What is needed for communication to be effective?
Requires active participation
What is verbal communication? What must it be?
Verbal communication is spoken, written, or signed. It has to be deliberate
What is non verbal communication?
Eye rolling, facial expressions, gestures, body language and tone of voice. It’s subtle.
Effective communication summary
Improves relationships with patients, and those of the nonverbal community once learned. CNA’s must communicate effectively with coworkers due to being the eyes and ears of the profession.
Positives and negatives of body language
Positives- facing the person speaking, smiling, eye contact.
Negatives- crossed arms, leg tapping, eye rolling etc.
What are some barriers to communication?
Not listening, judgement, assuming you know what people will say
Conflict-
Results from differences between people, and can create discomfort for yourself and the people around you. **address it before it becomes too out of control
What is report
Spoken exchange of information between the healthcare team to record and provide information about the patient.
How do you record info?
You use the patients name, room number, and correct terminology.

Est. in 1970 protects workers and enforces standards for the workplace. They also provide education when needed.
