Ideology
the study of ideas and where they come from. It suggests that those in power create ideas to justify their power and superiority.
Hegemony
A dominant way of seeing the world.
Status Quo
the current state of society. Those is power try to preserve the status quo because it benefits them.
Social Conditioning
The adoption of social ideas, beliefs, patterns of behavior through influencing elements such as education, popular culture, family life, and religion.
Social Construct
Ideas that are pushed by society to a point where we tend to not question where they came from. We simply accept them as natural or unchangeable.
Base
the economic system of a given community. The four main ones are: feudalism, capitalism, communism, or socialism.
Superstructure
the laws, rules, and ideas that support the base.
Blind Certainty
A closed-mindedness that is so absolute that causes people to be so intellectually imprisoned that they don’t even realize that they are locked up
Persuasion
Ideas that are designed to change perceptions.
