Anthesteria
An annual festival held during the month of Anthesterion (February to March). On the third day (called Chytroi (pots)), the dead were thought to leave the cemetery and visit their old homes. Pots containing cooked fruits were placed on their graves.
Aponimma
A ceremony involving water which was preformed by digging a trench at the grave probably after the funeral.
Enata (also Ennata)
Rites preformed on the ninth day after either death or burial
Eniausia
Rites performed annually
Genesia
An annual festival in honor of the dead. Its etymology and significance are disputed.
Kathedra
A banquet marking the conclusion of mourning at which relatives sat rather than reclined. (literally “a seating”)
Nemeseia
A festival in honour of the dead. its connection to Nemesis (Vengeance) is unclear.
Nomizomena (Also Nomina and Hiera Patroa)
A general word for customary rites preformed on behalf of the dead.
Perideipnon
A banquet held in honour of the deceased after the funeral in which the deceased was believed to be present in the capacity of host.
Triakostia (also Triakas and Triakades)
Rites performed on the thirtieth day after either burial or death; rites performed monthly.
