Exam Crackers tips Flashcards
MCAT Math
spend no more than 3 mins on any physics questions
Rounding
y=1/x^n
n=logx
Accuracy
how well measurements reflect the true value of something
Precision
how well multiple measured values agree with each other
Random Error
-present in all types of measurements
-shift measurements in unpredictable ways
-decreases precision
Systematic Error
-shift all measurements in a standardized way
-often caused by the way the measurements were taken
Negatively Skewed distribution
-tail extends to the left-left foot
-median-most representative in datasets bc most data sets are skewed
Positive Controls
Researchers manipulate them in a way that’s already known to produce the effect
Negative Controls
groups in which no effects are expected
T test vs ANOVA
-t test: looking for differences between two groups
-Anova: used when two or more groups are present
Chi Square
all categorical
ex: does political affiliation differ by state
T test
-determine whether two groups differ in their distributions of a single variable
-ex: Do men and women differ in IQ?
ANOVA
-Determine whether three or more variables differ in their distributions of a single variable
-Do students learn best in low light, medium light, or bright light?
Internal Validity
-the degree to which a casual relationship between the independent and dependent variables is demonstrated
-For example, if participants who volunteer for a study on weight loss are more motivated or health-conscious than those who decline to participate, the results may not be generalizable to the broader population, compromising the internal validity of the study.
Cars-Mind the timing
-start with a five second break
-read and attempt every question in order
-check time once and finish with 5 mins left
Four tools for answering questions
-Looking back (don’t use it if not finishing the session on time)
-the main idea
-the question stems
-the answer choices
Types of suspected distractors
-round about
-beyond
-Contrary
-Simpleton
-Unintelligence
The round about answers
Don’t answer the questions asked
Simply restate the question stem or provide no new information
Lots of convincing words but nothing is really said
Contraries
answers that contradict the main idea of psgs
Simpletons
have extreme wording like “always, never, and completely”
Unintelligible
answer choices that you don’t understand
ID the best answers
-match the passage and answer the question being asked
-strongly positive or negative is unlikely to be the best answer
