exam crackers Flashcards
What form are fats in a cell?
fatty acids and not triacylglycerol
what are three types of fatty acids?
- tiacylglycerols
- phospholipids
- glycolipids
Why are phospholipids amphipathic?
because they become polar at the phosphate end and nonpolar at the fatty acid end
How are glycolipids different from to phospholipids?
they have one carbohydrate attached to the three Carbon glycerol and not the phosphate
what is an example of terpenes?
they include vitamin A
What are eicosanoids?
hormones that control blood pressure, temperature, and muscle contraction that includes prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes
How are lipids transported through blood?
via lipoproteins since they are insoluble in aquoes solution
How are lipoproteins classified in the body?
VLDL and VHDL whoch signifies the highers the ratio of lipid to protein the lower the density
What are five forces in tertiary structure?
- disulfide bonds which are covalent
- ionic interactions
- H-bonds
- van der waals
- hydrophobic bonds
Distinguish between globular and strustural proteins?
Globular: enzymes, hormones, membrane pumps, and channels
Structural: long polymers which add strength to matrix(i.e. collagen)
What the difference between alpha glucose and beta glucose?
In alpha, hydroxyl group and the first carbon are on opposite sides while in beta they are on same sides
