Exam 4- Chronic Kidney Disease Complications Flashcards
Name the 5 major Complications of CKD discussed in class. (think My Aunt Flow has CKD Complications)
M-Metabolic acidosis/ mineral + bone disorders
A- Anemia
F-Fluid/electrolyte disorder
C- CVD
What 3 factors directly stimulate PTH?
- decrease calcium levels
- decreased calcitriol levels (active vitamin D)
- phosphate retention
What is used to treat MBD secondary to CKD? (3)
- phosphate binders
- Calciumimetics
- Vitamin D
What is the MOA of phosphate binders?
They bind phosphate (food) in the GI to form aluminum, calcium, magnesium phosphate which is excreted via feces.
Phosphate binding
-Stage 3, 4, 5 CKD (1st line)
Ca based phosphate binders are 1st line: with increase in phosphate or decrease in Ca as well as increase in phosphate and increase or in range Ca level.
Phosphate binding
-Stage 5 CKD- dialysis
Non-calcium based phosphate are used (only FDA)
What is the maximum amt of Ca should be taken?
2000 mg
