Primary Amenorrhea
Absence of menses by age 15
Secondary Amenorrhea
- Absence of menses for >3mo in those who have had regular menstrual cycles
- Absence of menses for >6 mo in those who have had irregular menstrual cycles
Initial testing in a pt with amenorrhea includes
- **hCG (rule out pregnancy)
- FSH, LH, TSH, PRL, and Estrogen
Rotterdam criteria is used to diagnose what condition?
PCOS
PCOS can be treated with
10-14 days a month- oral contraceptives: Medroxyprogestrone acetate, 5-10 mg
first tier medical tx of dysmenorrhea is
NSAIDS
Normal breast development is due to the presence of

Definition of premenstrual syndrome- PMS
PMS is defined as at least one sx associated with “economic or social dysfunction” that occurs during the 5 days before the onset of menses and is present at least 3 consecutive menstrual cycles
PMS symptoms include:
Edema
Weight gain
Restlessness / irritably / increased tension
Headache
ect
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is
a severe form of PMS in which Sx of anger, irritability, and internal tension are prominent
