Exam 3(part one) Flashcards
The muscle portion of the test
Define muscles
Organs composed of specialized cells that generate force
What are the three types of muscles
Cardiac, skeletal, and smooth
What complements muscle fibers
Layers of connective tissue and multiple blood vessels and nerves
What is teh connective tissue covering in order
Endomysium, Fascicle, Perimysium, Epimysium, tendons, and Aponeurosis
Whare the names of the cell membrane and cytoplasm of the muscle fiber
Sarcoplasm for cytoplasm and Sarcolemma cell membrane
What structure does sarcoplasm have?
Myofibrils-long parallel structures
What are the two prinicpal proteins of myfibrils
thin filaments of Actin and thick filaments of myosin
What causes the striation pattern
Sarcomeres( A-bands and I-bands)
Describe I-bands
Thin filaments of actin that are lighter in color
Describe A-bands
Thick filaments of myosin that are darker in color with h-zone in the middle
What are myosin filaments attached by?
Connectin or actin
What are the two regulatory proteins?
Troponin and Tropomyosin
Describe muscle contraction
An interaction of cellular and chemical constituents.
What components are used in contraction?
myofibrils, actin and myosin filaments
What is a synapse ( check note might be wrong)
The site of this functional connection to the end of axon
How do neuron communicate
They release neurotransmitter at the synapse
What are motor neurons
Neurons that control effectors
What is a neuromuscular junction
The synapse where a motor neuron axon and a skeletal muscle fiber meet.
What is a motor end plate
muscle fiber membrane
What does Acetylcholine do and where is synthesized
It is synthesized in the cytoplasm and is a neurotransmitter that motor neurons use to control skeletal muscle
The Description and location of at least two muscles of facial expression
Zygomaticus major and minor
Beneath skin of face and scalp: used to communicate feeling through facial expression.
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles of mastification
Medial and laterial pterygoid
Muscle attached to mandible and used for chewing
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move head and vertebral column
Splenious and Semispinalis capitis
Muscles in neck and back of head
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move pectoral girdle
Rhomboid major and minor
Most are connect scapula to nearby bones and associated with muscles that move arm
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move arms
Teres major and minor
Muscles connected to pectoral girdle, ribs, and vertebral column
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move forearm
supinator and biceps brachii
Connect radius and ulna to humerous and pectoral girdle
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles of pelvic floor and perineum
Coccygeus and levator ani
Form the floor of pelvic cavity and fill space in the public arch
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles of abdominal wall
External and internal oblique
Connect rib cage and vertabral column to pectoral gridle
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move the thigh
Gluteus maximum and medius
Attached to femur and to some portion of pelvic girdle; can be separated into anterior medial posterior
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move leg
Bicep femoris and rectus femoris
Connect tibulia or fibula to femur or pelvic girdle
The Description and location of at least two muscles of muscles that move foot
Soleus and Plantaris
Attach femur tibia , femur to various bones of the feet
