What does the FMS consist of?
10 movement screen
- 7 w/ a 4 point scale
- 3 clearing movements to assess for pain
How is the FMS scored?
- 3: movement good, no compensation
- 2: movement completed w/ compensation/assistance
- 1: Unable to complete movement
- 0: Pain anywhere during movement

- OH squat
- Inline lunge
- Hurdle stepover
- Straight leg raise
- Press up (clearing test)
- Spinal flexion
- Trunk stability push up
- Rotary stability test
- Shoulder reaching aross
- IR/ER test
If there is a R and L side to the test, how is this scored?
Take the lower score
What does the data say for the FMS?
Inconclusive, look at the literature for the specific activity
What is the Y-balance test?
- Came from the STAR excursion test
- Test of 3 directions
Order of lower extremity Y-balance test
- 3 anterior R
- 3 anterior L
- 3 posterior medial R
- 3 posterior medial L
- 3 posterior lateral R
- 3 posterior lateral L
Order of upper extremity Y-balance test
- Medial
- Superior lateral

How is the Y-balance test scored?
- Bilateral: % difference b/t R and L
- Composite: [(A + Pm + Pl)/(3x limb length)] x 100
What does the research say about the LE Y-balance test?
Difference > 3-4 cm from side to side indicates a greater risk of injury
What does the research say about the UE Y-balance test?
- Less research here
- This is a closed-chain test for mostly open-chain activities
