Sensorimotor
up to 2-year-old, Innate relaxes at first(suck, chew), Object permanence (under blanket),
Preoperational
2-7, Symbolic thought: irreversibility, centration and egocentrism
Centration
focus on one feature of a problem, neglecting other aspect.
Irreversibility
cant picture reversing an action.
Egocentrism
cant take another person’s perspective. It is hard for children to take other person’s perspective. I.e) she could not believe prof is sister of her grandmother
Animism
tend to think everything is living
Preoperational experiment
Do not understand conservation, (Child with GREEN cup. Same amount green water experiment but height makes child think water on the other cup has less. )
Concrete Operational
7-11, decentration, Reversibility, Less egocentrism and animism
Formal Operational
11- adulthood, Can apply mental operations to abstract ideas, 2. Concepts like justice, free will, love
