Q

Why do we use factorial designs

A

Factorial designs are:
* 1) More efficient
* Can see the effect that each factor independently has on the DV in a single study
* Allows you to identify multiple main effects using less time and participants

  • 2) More informative
  • Can see if the factors combine together (interact) to have a “special effect” on the DV
  • Allows you to identify interaction effects

Q

crossover effect

A

most dramatic, it depends, lines cross
when looking for interactions, you are looking to see if the lines are parallel
“whether you like your food hot or cold depends on the type of food”

Q

spreading interactions

A

“only when”
impact of IV2 has an effect on one level of the IV but not the other
“only when I have a treat and say sit does my dog sit”

Q

- a 2x2 between subjects has 4 groups/cells
