Exam 3 Flashcards
What best describes the Starter Generator? (SG)
Produces 9kW 28V dc power at sea level
Battery configuration
Fitted in two sets of three:
- 1,3,5 provide power to Bus 1 BJB
- 2,4,6 provide power to Bus 2 BJB
What best describes the DCPS? Digital current power supply
Converts DDBA 3-phase V ac into 28V dc
Describe BJB 1 (‘all of the above’)
- distributes SG 28V to Bus 1
- provides isolation between Bus 1 and Bus 2 for redundancy
- provides circuit protection fusing
Power Supply Bus Bar
Batteries 1,3,5 provide backup power in the event of SG failure
Best describe the two PPDMs - payload power distribution module
Distributes 28V dc to connected components
What is to be carried out prior to conducting the relevant check list in the event of an engine failure? (‘All of the above’)
- Time: note time the failure occurred
- speed lever - high
- diagnose failure
What is the primary indication of a starter generator failure?
Bus 1 Bat/Gnd A >10A
What is the primary indication of a DDBA failure? (‘False’) direct drive brushless alternator
DDBA power (alternator pwr on VIT 9) less than 1800W
What is the primary indicator of a dual generator failure? (‘False’)
Bus 1 Bat/Gnd A >10A and DDBA power <1800W
How do engine parameters show that they are exceeded?
Yellow condition requires continuous monitoring
Signals system is approaching redline
What are the engine torque limits?
Normal range: 0-104%
Max: 107.8%
What are the EGT limits?
Minimum: 300deg
Normal in flight range: 350-650deg
Maximum: 675deg
What are the oil temperature limits? (‘All of the above’)
Minimum for engine start: -20deg
Minimum for flight: 56deg
Normal for flight: 70-115deg
Maximum: 119deg
What is the normal oil pressure range?
50-120psi
What is the maximum jet pump manifold pressure?
60psi
What is the VNE? Velocity never exceeded
Cruise mode on: 230KIAS/249KTAS
What is the max tailwind permissible?
10kts
What is a CAP? (‘All of the above’)
Steps identified by steps in all BOLDFACE CAPITAL letters
Need to be committed to memory so they can be actioned immediately before any checklists are referenced with 100% accuracy
What is the engine failure CAP?
- GLIDE - ESTABLISH (P)
- LANDING SITE - SELECT (P)
- CONDITION LEVER - AFT, AS REQUIRED (P)
What would cause an engine to fail?
Fuel
Fire
FOD
Frozen
Is the warning area on the HDD resizable?
Yes (‘true’)
Which screen is the status display?
The left one - incorporates a warning area at the top in blue
Where are VITs displayed?
On the command or status screen
How are VITs numbered
0-99
What is VIT 2?
Air and control data
What is VIT 18
Emergency mission
Where is the PRF code located on the HUD?
Top left
Can the LTM be seen with the naked eye?
No, requires Night Vision
What is the safe distance for the LRD for the naked eye?
Slant range of 46.7km
What is the safe distance of the LTM?
Slant range of 324m for naked eye, skin hazard 28m
How can you toggle between the LTM and LRD?
On the HDD or the Toolbar

What is the advantage of Brick Map Mode?
Covers large area much more quickly than other modes?
What spectrum does the MTS operate in?
Electromagnetic spectrum
How long for NUC 1 + 3 to process?
NUC 1 - 6 secs
NUC 3 - 50 secs
What are the two digital fields of view?
2x and 4x
What does the red button on the control stick do?

What do you do if you have a Gimbal Disable condition with an asterisk?
Do not initiate AN/DAs- reset
What happens when tracker enters Coast Mode?
When tracked target is lost because it is obscured. LOS continues to move at last valid rate and direction until target reacquired or track cancelled.
Coast mode indicated by track gate corners flashing. If system fails to reacquire track after 5 seconds it automatically cancels and reverts to rate mode.
