Can result in persistant memory loss, decreased attention/learning/motor movement
-Respiratory/cardiac problems
Withdrawl symptoms- anger, aggression, irritability, insomnia, anxiety, reslessness

Prolong wakefulness and suppress appetite
(ex: MDMA, meth)
-Puts adrenergic system into overdrive
-cardiac problems result
-rapid build of tolerance
-Most don’t use other substances

Stimulates reward pathways
-High doses result in hallucinations, aggressiveness, disorientation, tremors, seizures
-More male users
Sedative Drugs

Barbituates
Act on GABA system, leads to disinhibition, euphoria, lower anxiety
-High doses can lead to impairment of memory and coordination, irritability, paranoia, suicidal thoughts
Benzodiazepines
High doses lead to light-headedness, vertigo, muscle-control problems
-Over sedations and problems in thinking and social interactions
-Withdrawal symptoms similar to alcohol
-May die from depression of respiratory system
