Exam #2: ROOD Flashcards
ROOD
- one of the older traditional neurophysiological approaches
- focus on SENSORY STIMULATION and DEVELOPMENTAL SEQUENCE
ROOD: Sensory stimulation
-applying controlled sensory stimulation to activate reflexive arcs in body in order to bring about a desired motor response
ROOD: Developmental sequence
-stimulating progression through developmental sequence
Facilitative techniques
- flaccid
- low muscle tone patients
Inhibitory techniques
- spasticity
- high muscle tone patients
Facilitative: Tactile input
- light touch (stroking)
- brushing
Facilitative: Proprioceptive input
- quick stretch
- vibration
- heavy joint compression (resistance greater than > body weight)
- resistance
Facilitative: Thermal input
- A-icing (ice cups, targeting A sensory fibers)
- C-icing (ice cups, targeting C sensory fibers)
Inhibitory: Tactile
-Slow stroking (relaxation, light stroke, down either side of spinal column)
Inhibitory: Proprioceptive
- prolonged stretch (getting a muscle to calm down, low and slow stretch)
- joint approximation
- tendon pressure
- vestibular stimulation (log rolling, slow)
Inhibitory: Thermal
- neutral warmth (wrapping up in a blanket)
- prolonged cooling
