Causes of choking in children
Usually, choke on food
Non-food items: safety pins, marbles, pens, small buttons

Signals of choking
coughing
clutching throat- classic sign
looking panicked or making high-pitched noises
losing consciousness
bluish skin color
Heimlich maneuver
Stand to the side of the person, arm under arm on chest
Bend them over at the waist
5 back blows
stand them up and stand behind them
Find naval, make fist, and place thumb side against middle of abdomen
Grab fist and push upward
If pregnant or very large, how should you care for them if they are choking
give chest thrusts instead of abdominal thrust. Center of breastbone
If you are alone, how can you care for choking

Febrile seizures
Signals of seizure include:
Blank stare, distorted sensation, convulsions, uncontrollable movements
When to call 9-1-1 with seizures
Seizure last more than 5 minutes
multiple seizures
person is pregnant
has diabetes
When blood flow to the brain has stopped due to internal bleeding or blocked arteries carrying blood
Stroke
when victims have symptoms of a stroke that completely go away
mini-stroke
Risk factors of stroke
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Smoking
Improper diet
Stress
