Exam 2: Chapter 6 Vocabulary Flashcards
All behaviors arise from events that occur in the brain or CNS.
Assumption
When bias present in self report, this method may yield accurate data.
Observational methods
The observer records each time a target behavior occurs.
Frequency-count recording
The elapsed time during which each target behavior occurs.
Duration recording
Used if it is impractical to collect observational data while the critical behavior is occurring.
Audio and video recording
Recording all of the behavior of the target individual’s for a specific interval.
Continuous recording
The extent to which a trained observer’s scores agree with an expert observer.
Criterion-related observer reliability
The extent to which observers agree with each other during actual data collection.
Inter-observer reliability
Each observer twice codes a video or audio recording of events.
Inter-observer reliability
Any action by observers that reduces the validity or reliability of the data they collect.
Observer effects
The tendency for observers to rate all or most of the individuals whose they observe around the mid point of the observational scale.
Error of central tendency
The observer’s early impressions of the individual begin observe to influence his/her rating on all behaviors.
Halo Effect
