recovery
a process of movement toward improvement in health and quality of life
process of change through which individuals: improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential
4 dimensions of recovery
health- overcoming one’s disease and living in a healthy way
home- stable and safe place to live
purpose- meaningful daily activities
community- relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope
the tidal model
created by nurses, the authors use the power of METAPHOR to engage with the person in distress; the metaphor of water describes how individuals in distress become emotionally, physically, and spiritually shipwrecked.
focus is on the individual’s personal story. where his or her problems first appeared and where any growth, benefit, or recovery will be found
tidal model commitments and competencies
value the voice, respect the language, develop genuine curiosity, become the apprentice, use the available toolkit, craft the step beyond, give the gift of time, reveal personal wisdom, know that change is constant, be transparent
wellness recovery action plan (WRAP model)
a step-wise process through which an individual is able to monitor and manage distressing symptoms that occur in daily life. individual empowerment comes from self-administration of the plan.
can include a “psych advanced directive”
