Exam 2 Flashcards
1
Q
List the four assumptions we make when doing sub-maximal testing?
A
- A steady state HR is obtained for each exercise work rate.
- A HR taken more than once that doesn’t differ > 5bpm - A linear relationship exists between HR and work rate.
- Linear = HR 110>150 - The maximal HR for a given age is uniform.
- Mechanical efficiency is similar for everyone.
2
Q
Why is there not a linear relationship between HR and work rate when HR < 110?
A
Your CO is increased more due to SV than HR.
3
Q
Why is there not a linear relationship between HR and work rate when HR > 150?
A
SV no longer affects the increases in HR, it plateaus because your at 40-50% VO2max.
4
Q
How do arrhythmias occur?
A
Hypoxia, Ischemia, Sympathetic activation, Drugs, Electrolyte imbalances, Bradycardia, Stretch.
