Exam 2 Flashcards

1
Q

List the four assumptions we make when doing sub-maximal testing?

A
  1. A steady state HR is obtained for each exercise work rate.
    - A HR taken more than once that doesn’t differ > 5bpm
  2. A linear relationship exists between HR and work rate.
    - Linear = HR 110>150
  3. The maximal HR for a given age is uniform.
  4. Mechanical efficiency is similar for everyone.

Q

Why is there not a linear relationship between HR and work rate when HR > 150?

SV no longer affects the increases in HR, it plateaus because your at 40-50% VO2max.
