Is earth a closed or open system? Does it strive for balance?
Earth is a closed system because it is not gaining or losing matter. The Earth is a constant matter. Energy can enter and exit, but matter can not. It is constantly trying to balance the flow of energy in and out of Earth’s system.
What is the lithosphere?
The crust and uppermost (brittle) of the mantle.
What are the Earth’s layers and states of matter?
Crust (solid), Mantle (solid), Outer Core (liquid), and inner core (solid).
What are the four spheres of the Earth
Geosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere, Biosphere
What are divergent boundaries?
Plates move apart (mid ocean ridge, rift valleys)
What are convergent boundaries?
Where crust come together (mountains, volcanoes)
What are transform boundaries?
Where crust is neither produced or destroyed as plates slide horizontally past each other (San Andreas fault)
