Exam 2 Flashcards
Goals of NSPT
- minimize bacteria challenge to pt
- eliminate/control local factors
- minimize impact of systemic factors
- stabilize attachment levels
Gingivitis Treatment Plan
Self-Care, Instrumentation, Eliminate local factors, *Re-Evaluate response
Re-Evaluation Steps
med update, clinical assessment, compare results, decide on next steps, perform additional therapy (if needed), determine maintenance schedule, referral (if needed)
Cairo Classification: Recession
based on buccal and interdental CAL
Gingival/Periodontal Abscess Treatment
anesthetize, drain, instrumentate, adjust occlusion, antibiotics or pain meds, saline rinses, follow up
Pericoronal Abscess
anesthetize, drain, instrumentate, irrigate, antibiotics or pain meds, saline rinses, evaluate for extraction, follow up
Necrotizing Periodontal Disease
3 types - NUG, NUP, NUS
necrosis, ulceration, pseudomembrane, punched out papilla
NUG Treatment
- remove pseudomembrane, limited supra intrumentation, soft brushing osc, chlorhexidine rinses, avoid tobacco/alcohol
- 2 days later, sub instrumentation, more osc, stress reduction/sleep
- 5 days, complete instrumentation, antibiotics + further
NUP and NUS
referral to periodontist
OPT Aids for embrasures
1 - floss
2 - interdental brush/toothpick
3 - interdental brush/end tuft brush
Anatomic tooth local factors
