What is a vision statement?
A short, succinct statement of what the WHPP intends to become:
EX: “To have the healthiest and most productive workforce in our industry”
What is a mission statement?
- Describes the steps that move your strategic planning process from present to future
- Usually longer, multi-dimensional
- Reflects organizations philosophy, purpose, goals, and commitment for achieving the vision
EX: “The employee wellness program provides opportunities, services and resources for employees, spouses, and retirees to make healthy lifestyle choices. Its purpose is to help improve health-risk status and control health-related costs, with special emphasis on less-fit and at-risk participants.”
What does a mission statement need to include?

General Population- ex: Employee, spouses, retirees

- Identify the population at risk. In this case, the population is male who have at least two risk factors for heart disease
- Conduct an analysis of medical claims & HRAs
- Develop a heart health program with screenings and education, along with a walking program with financial incentives
- Inform employees and publicize with emails, bulletin boards, paycheck stuffers
When should the objectives be constructed?
After the goals have been established.
