Exam 1 (Lecture 7) - Medulla 2 Flashcards
What are the components of the vestibulocochlear nerve?
1) Vestibular
- afferent fibers from vestibular organ
- eye movement in response to change in head position
- adjust body position in response to change in head position
2) Cochlear
- Afferent fibers from cochlea (sound sensory organ)
- Auditory input
What are the auditory structures present in the medulla?
1) Cochlear nuclei
2) Acoustic stria
3) Trapezoid body
What clinical signs would you expect to see with a lesion of the vestibular system?
1) Abnormal nystagmus
- oscillating eye movement when head is still
- slow phase
- quick phase (designates direction)
- away from lesion
2) Head tilt
- toward lesion
3) Walking in circle
- toward lesion
