Exam 1- Endocrine And Cardiac Flashcards
Hypothalamus
Controls pituitary gland and is releasing or inhibiting hormones
Anterior pituitary hormones?
Growth hormone, prolactin, and four tropins,
thyroid stimulating hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormones,
follicle stimulAting hormone,
luteinizing hormone
Posterior pituitary hormones
Oxytocin and ADH
Thyroid gland produces which hormones?
Thyroid hormones (t3 and T4)
Parathyroid glAnds produce which hormone?
Parathyroid hormone, PTH. Which raises blood calcium levels
Adrenal medulla produces which hormones?
Epinephrine and norepinephrine (fight or flight hormones)
Adrenal cortex produces which hormones?
Mineralocorticoids-aldosterone
Glucocorticoids- resists long term stressors
Gonadocorticoids- androgens(testosterone) and a small amount of estrogen.
What hormones does the pancreas produce?
Glucagon- raises the blood sugar levels.
Insulin- lowers blood sugar
What hormones do the gonads produce?
Ovaries- estrogen and progesterone
Testes- testosterone
What hormones does the thymus produce?
Thymosin and thymopoietin- stimulates production of T cells and is also part of the immune system.
Pineal gland?
Produces melatonin, sleep wake cycles.
Plasma is composed of?
Water, electrolytes,nutrients& wastes,proteins
Formed elements is composed of?
Erythrocytes(RBC’s)
Leukocytes(wbc)
Platelets
Which leukocytes are granulocytes?
Neutrophils
Eosinophils
Basophils
Definition of neutrophils?
Most common, phagocytes, 1st responders to a wound site, pinkish granules with 3 to 5 lobed nucleus.
Definition of eosinophils?
Bright red granules, 2 lobed nucleus, phagocytize parasitic worms, and inactivated histamine
Definition of basophils?
Least common, S-shaped nucleus, large role granules that contain histamine, releases histamine.
Which leukocytes are agranulocytes?
Lymphocytes and monocytes
Definition of lymphocytes?
T cells kill virus infected and cancer cells
B cells produce antibodies
Definition of monocytes?
Largest leukocyte, pale blue cytoplasm, large kidney shaped nuclei, become a macrophage and cleans up
