Exam 1- EKG interpretation Flashcards
depolarization of both right and left atria
P wave
good indicator of AV node health
PR interval
normal .12-.20 seconds
PR interval
represents ventricular depolarization
QRS complex
normal .04-.10
QRS complex
represents ventricular repolarization
T wave
represents depolarization and repolarization of the ventricles
QT interval
Normal Sinus Rhythm
Only rhythm considered normal Upright P wave precedes every QRS complex All PR intervals range from .12-.20 QRS is less than .12 All P waves look alike Rate is 60-100 beats per minute
Sinus Bradycardia
The rate is less than 60 bpm
Causes: vomiting and drugs such as dig, morphine, and sedatives
Treat with Atropine or other cardiac stimulant
Sinus Tachycardia
The rate is between 100-150 bpm
Causes: pain, fear, anemia, hemorrhage, exercise, anxiety, drugs like atropine, nicotine, caffeine, or amphetamines
Sinus Arrhythmia
The SA node initiates all the electrical impulses, but at irregular intervals
Change with respirations
Normal in infants and children, but can be a warning of diseased SA node or CAD in adults.
Treat HTN, shock, eliminate caffeine
Sinus Arrest/Pause
The SA node initiates an electrical impulse that is blocked and not conducted to atria.
The atria do not depolarize and a P wave will not be seen.
Impulse is not conducted to the ventricles to cause depolarization so no QRS.
Period of asystole
Causes: MI, hypoxia, drugs: dig or quinidine
