MDD criteria
5 or more of the following sx for at least 2 weeks:
depressed mood loss of interest weight loss or gain insomnia or hypersomnia psychomotor agitation or retardation loss of energy decreased concentration inappropriate guilt or worthlessness recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
MDD with anxious distress criteria
at least 2
keyed up or rense unusually restless difficulty concentration due to worry feeling something awful will happen loss of control
MDD with mixed features criteria
at least 3
elevated/expanded mood grandiosity pressured speech flight of ideas increased energy decreased need for sleep (but not bipolar)
MDD with melancholic features criteria
loss of pleasure lack of reactivity worse in AM early morning awakening weight loss psychomotor abnormalities guilt
MDD with atypical features criteria
mood reactivity
increased appetite
What are advantages of DSM 5?
improve diagnostic and tx approach improve hx taking dimensional approach organizational structure address cultural issues
What are disadvantages of DSM5?
may pathologize normal cognitive age related changes, behavioral changes or other issues
Dysthymia criteria
depressed mood plus at least 2 other depressive symptoms for at least 2 years
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) criteria
btwn ages of 6-10 with severe temper outbursts with underlying persistent angry or irritable mood 3 or more times/week in 2 settings for the last year
Bereavement/grief
emptiness and loss dysphoria can have positive emotional experiences self-esteem is preserved fleeting thoughts of joining deceased
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder criteria
sx in week before menses in at least 2 cycles: affect lability irritability depressed mood anxiety/tension decreased interest in activities lethargy hypersomnia or insomnia
Mania/hypomania
persistently elevated, expansive or irritable mood with increased activity or energy lasting at least 1 wk (4 days for hypo)
Characteristics of mania
3 or more of the following: grandiosity decreasde need for sleep talkative/pressured flight of ideas distractibillity increasde activity excessive involvement in consequential behavior
Schizophrenia criteria
Two or more of the following sx (at least one +) for significant portion of time during 1 mo period with signs of disturbance for at least 6 mo
delusions* hallucinations* disorganized speech* grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior negative sx
brief psychotic disorder criteria
same as schizo but only lasting 1 day to 1 month
schizophreniform disorder criteria
same as schizophrenia but lasts 1-6 months
delusional disorder criteria
bizarre or non-bizarre delusions >1 month
thought and behavior intact
(erotomatic, grandiose, jealous, somatic, mixed, persecutory)
schizoaffective disorder criteria
schizophrenia and distorted thinking with mood component such as depression or mania sx and presence of psychotic sx during two week period or longer in absence of mood sx
schizoid criteria
excessive detachment from social relationships and restricted range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings
schizotypal criteria
acute discomfort with and reduced capacity for close relationships as well as cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentricities of behavior

separation anxiety criteria
3 of the following sx lasting 6 mo in adults:
excessive distress about losing figure, harm, injury, illness
persistent worry about kidnapping, getting lost etc.
persistent reluctance to go out or away from house
fear to be alone
nightmares of separation
HA, nausea, vomiting when figure gone
GAD criteria
excessive anxiety and worry lasting 6 mo with 3 of the following sx: restlessness easily fatigued irritability muscle tension sleep disturbance difficulty concentrating
Specific phobia criteria
lasting 6 mo or more:
fear about specific object or situation
object provokes fear/anxiety
causes impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of fn
social phobia criteria
lasting 6 mo or more:
fear about social situations
avoidance of social situations
Panic attack criteria
abrupt onset peak within minutes with 4 of the following:
palpitations, sweating, trembling, shaking, SOB, nausea, chest pain, chills, parethesis, fear of dying
Panic disorder criteria
recurrent panic attacks followed by 1 month of persistent concern about additional panic attacks
agoraphobia criteria
marked fear or anxiety about 2 of the following lasting 6 mo or more:
public transportation, open spaces, enclosed spaces, standing in line, being outside home
PTSD criteria
exposure to actual or threatened death, injury or sexual violence
with one of the following lasting for 1 mo or more:
distressing memories, dreams, disociative reactions, avoidance of stimuli
sleep disturbance, rdestructive behavior
acute stress disorder criteria
exposure to threatened death, injury or sexual violence PLUS presence of 9 or more of the following sx lasting 3 days up to a month after trauma:
intrusion sx, neagtive mood, disocciative sx, avoidance sx, arousal sx
adjustment disorder criteria
development of emotional or behavioral sx in response to ID stressor within 3 mo of onset of stressors:
marked distress, impairment in social, ocupational or toerh areas of fn
sx do not persist longer than 6 mo once stressor is removed
alcohol use disorder criteria
2 of the following within 12 mo period:
taken in larger amts persistent desire craving or desire failure to fuilfill major role tolerance withdrawal
