They needed to keep records. They were big traders and needed to track orders and shipments. They also relied heavily on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and needed to keep track of their flooding to save food, shelters, animals, and lives

The people were servants of the gods but had a constant search for the meaning of life. The gods could be nice or destructive. They either supplied your town with a good harvest or got angry and wiped it away with floods. Humans literally need the gods for survival

The key difference is the stunts and value of the individuals involved. In law 196 the penalty is higher because the injured party is worth more. In law 198 the cost is a middle cost because the man is of a middle cast. In law 199 a slave is hurt and the penalty is not very much

The society was very structured. There was also a class system and a gender divide.
In what ways can scholars recognize the different writers of the Hebrew bible
You can tell the different writers of the Hebrew bible by the words they used and what they wrote about. J wrote genesis and Abrahams story and he used the abbreviation yhwh to stand for God. E also wrote genesis and wrote based on oral tradition. D wrote about Hebrew failures . P wrote about priestly ordinances and was after the fall of Jerusalem
Why are David and Solomon so important to Hebrew history
David is important because he United Judah and Israel and helped them become the most powerful people in the Middle East. He also brought back the arch of the covenant.
Solomon took over from David and built the Jerusalem temple

In both readings a slave is worth significantly less than a citizen .however the slaves are with different amounts. The slave is worth less as a human in hammurabis code. The repayment goes towards the slaves master where in exodus the slave is more human because the repayment goes directly to the slave. Property vs person

The readings are similar in that they have the same punishment for the crime committed. However in exodus there is more detail and the people have involved like slaves and women have more value though still as not much as a free man

What did David do to cover up his crimes
David used Joab to give the orders to be close to the wall and then blamed Joab for putting Uriah there. He also quickly married Bathsheba to cover up the pregnancy
What three punishments did God impose on David? Why did go choose these punishments?
God imposed the death of his son, the transfer of his wife to another man in broad daylight, brings trouble into the family. I think God chose these punishments because they mirror David’s actions

God is angered that the people don’t respects him, they aren’t thankful for his gifts, they don’t appreciate him or fear him, they break his commandments and take everything for granted.

God is loving because he forgives people
