Three body types. Body type could tell what a person was like. Body type affects perceptions and behavior
How do we base our personality vs others?
we take into account our thoughts while we just look at other people’s behavior
Personality
a consistent set of characteristics displayed over time and across situations
Trait
a relatively consistent characteristic exhibited across situations. a stable predisposition to behave in a certain way. can’t 100% predict
Trait theory
traits are the building blocks of personality. inferred from behavior
state theory
behavior is due to a situation, not internal traits
interactionism
traits, situations, and interactions affect behavior thought, and feelings
Factor analysis
use statistics to identify sets of related personality traits, (underlying factors)
The Big five (personality categories)
Open to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism
OCPD Vs OCD

Barnum effect
the idea that we tend to accept as valid descriptions of our personality that are true to everyone
MMPI
a test designed to discriminate between normals and psychiatric groups. measures
lots of questions. good test if taken honestly. high reliability and validity, good predictability
