Sequence of MT Process
Referral, Assessment, Treatment Planning, Treatment Implementation, Treatment Evaluation, Termination, Observation happens the entire way through.
Goals
Expected therapeutic outcome. Long Term.
Objectives
Expected outcome that has observable and measurable behaviors. Short Term.
Target Behavior
Behavior that provides focus for therapy.
MT Treatment Plan
Sequence and hierarchy of objectives providing behavioral markers of progress which identifies terminal behaviors.
Termination
Final stage with evaluation progress, plan for phasing out and/or ending therapy. Record for future follow up plan.
Evaluation
Comprehensive analysis of success of MT program including conclusions and recommendations.
MT Strategies
Specific MT methods used to meet specific goals and objectives which may include considering individual or group sessions.
Implementation
Occurs when MT plan is carried out and involves continuing re-assessment of client progress.
Observation
On-going process involving recording the target behavior in terms of frequency and duration.
Referral
1st step in MT Treatment process involving specific criteria as well as the need to educate professionals/clients/guardians about the role of MT.
1st Session Rapport
A session involving building therapeutic relationship, establishing trust, and developing mutually agreed upon contract.
Assessment
Systematic approach to the evaluation, appraisal, or observation of a person’s strengths and weaknesses in prep for Treatment planning.

Quantitative Research
Is this effective, Yes/No, Statistics
Survey Research
Descriptive, about the population at the current time.

Ways to generally build rapport
Introduce yourself, determine musical preferences, determine musical history
Components of Therapeutic Rapport
Empathy, Boundaries, Trust, Unconditional Positive Regard
Ways to build music based rapport
Singing client’s name, using musical preferences, singing and playing together
Ways to build non-music based rapport
Introducing yourself, asking for likes and dislikes, Watching physiological cues, look into charts, talk to treatment team.
