What is Tilley’s definition of Faith?
“The relationship between one and the irreducible energizing source of meaning and center of value in ones life”, (Tilley 26). Essentially stating that faith is what is most important and valued to someone in their life.
What is blind faith?
The term means that someone follows that faith without discovering and forming thier own personal attachment to that particular pratice.
What is Pascal’s Wager?
His wager states that those who follow God are only wagering thier time if he doesn’t exist but they still benefit from having that relationship with him. Compared to those who don’t follow God may have some extra time but are losing out on gaining salvation if he does exist.
What does Proof vs Signs mean?
It is the debate between scientists and religious followers on what should be used as concrete measure to validate the existance or reasonings behind one’s own faith in a higher power.
What does the Final Fact Parity mean?
The final fact parity is the difference in the views on the size of the universe from scientists and religious believers. With scientists stating that the universe is what we can see and measure on earth and throughout the galaxies. Meanwhile the religious believers agree but they also believe that there is an afterlife that exists in this world that we just haven’t seen yet.
What does the “dark night of the soul” mean?
An occurrence of when someone struggles with their own faith
What is spirituality?
It is the path or means people take to find or deepen their own faith
Atheist vs. Non-Theist
Atheists are people who believe that there are not a God or Gods who exist compared to a non-theist who doesn’t believe or have faith in any religion.
“Contemplative faith reasoning based on synthetic congruence of signs pointing to a truth”
It is a phrase to describe how somone discovers and is able to find personal meaning in their own faith.
What is SBNR?
People who like to practice spirituality to individually develop their own faith since they disagree with rigidity in the church.
What does epoche (religious studies vs. theology) mean?
The difference between the two is that theology studies religion from the perspective of someone’s faith while religious studies aim to look at religion without an particular attachement to a specific pratice. Epoche is integreal to religous studies because it requires those to set aside their own perspectives or beliefs to apporach the study of various religions from an objective persepctive.
What is Interfaith dialogue?
Is when those from different faiths can respectfully come together and in some cases share their own beliefs, traditions, and religious practices.
What is Dialogue of Discourse?
The dialogue of discourse is when members of different faiths come together to discuss the teachings and traditions of their own practice. With its aim being simply for education to understand what each of the religions have in common and their own unique differences.
What is Dialogue of life?
This form of religious dialogue occurs when someone seeks out those with different faiths than their own in a discussion that does not need be about faith. With the goal of forming positive connections with people from a variety of religious backgrounds.
What is an Anonymous Christian?
Is someone who hasn’t heard of Christianity but has similar beliefs and would be interested in practicing it if the opportunity arose.
