- Stigma prevents people from getting help+ care
- Work to break down these barrriers
- Talking saves lives
- Create culture of talking and expressing emotions, feelings
- Address people where they’re at in a holistic manner-> Identify needs + take care of people
- Show respect-> preferred pronouns, names, etc.

Levels of care for mental health population
- Least restrictive environment to get the job done to take care of person
Ethics/ Legal aspects of care
- Do no harm, be fair, meet people at level of care they need, utilize ethical and legal teams to uphold rights, Follow appropriate protocols w/ emergency meds, restraints, etc. -> following facility guidelines + providing adequate assessment and monitoring of patients if they have physical or chemical restraints in place
Mental health care models/ integrated care
Integrated care is the best model!
- MH is imbedded in primary care
Voluntary/Involuntary care
- Goal in psych care is voluntary care but not always
- Vulnerable pops-> elderly, child
Med neglect-> not getting care they need, or abuse concerns -> must report!!!! - Cognitive or substance challenged -> may have to get court-order Tx
- Patient does not lose rights
Nursing interventions/ self-care/ resiliency
To prevent onset of significant distress
- Relaxations: hot bath, yoga, mindfulness, distraction, art, books, going to breakroom to stretch
- hydration/ nutrition/ sleep/ support/ time
Milleu management and nursing repsonsibity
- Environment in which you’re working + powerful part of tx
- Milleu should be safe, free of danger (physical and emotional), calm, relaxing low stimulation, appropriate activities
- enviornment should promote safety and healing for all
- any level of threatening behavior or concerns-> share!!

Secondary-> screening measures
Tertiary -> ongoing management
Therapy/ therapeutic interventions
CBT-> evidneced for 1st line for anxiety and depression
- therapy done by certified/trained practitioners
- exploring ways of thinking about problems and associated behaviors
- healthy coping strategies
- should in safe environment+ and be recovery orientated
- monitor for pt being in detail with own experience, confronting individuals, trauma discussion -> connect to therapist
Person centered care and motivational interventions
motivational interviewing-> identifying reason/ motivation that would help patient achieve end goal by exploring strategies, not giving own opinion, taping into resilience
- strategies that allow people to felel empowered

Boundaries-> do not disclose info and put focus back on patinet
set limits-> establish guidelines + boundaries ealry on
