EWT - AO3 Flashcards
How does research into Misleading Information have real life application?
It has helped improve the legal system and how trails are done - thus reducing mistrials
What is a limitation of research into Misleading Info?
Research is done using artificial tasks - so doesn’t tell us how leading questions impact real EWTs as there are other factors that contribute to its accuracy like trauma
Who found that Individual Differences also affect EWT? What did they find specifically?
(Limitation)
Rhodes - age impacts memory and recall and there is a thing known as ‘Own Age Bias’
Own Age Bias - where the accuracy of identification is greater as you’re more likely to remember someone that looks a similar age to you
Who provided evidence against weapon focus?
Pickel - conducted a study with a range of weapons and found that recall was worse in the high unusualness condition (e.g. handgun)
What is a weakness of the research into the effects of anxiety on EWT?
They are Field Experiments - lack control and there may be extraneous variables that may have influenced the findings, plus its harder to replicate them especially Yuille and Cutshall’s research since it was based on real events
Why are there ethical issues concerning research into the effects of anxiety on EWT?
The ppts were deceived in Johnson and Scotts research and it may have cause them psychological harm due to witnessing a ‘crime’
