Evolution Test Flashcards
What are the five types of evidence for common ancestry
Fossil record Embryology Comparative anatomy Genetics Vestigial Oregon
What is evolution
The process in which inherited characteristics within a population change over generations
What does fossil record help with the understanding of evolution
Shows how organisms have changed over time
➖shows the different animals at an early stage in life
Embryology
How does comparative anatomy help the idea of evolution
It’s studies the bones of animals and compares them to see if there’s any similarities and to see if they have a recent relative
Genetics helps with the idea of evolution because
It shows the similarities between the animals DNA and if they have recent ancestors
Vestigial structures help with the idea of evolution because
It shows the bones and organs that are not needed and they compare them with the animals that do use them and see it they had an ancestor that is alike and the animal now doesn’t use because it adapted to its environment
What is adaption
A characteristic that increases in individuals ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment
How does adaption help in organism survive in its environment
Adaption helps because they have a certain characteristic that is needed for that specific environment and that they adapted from it and so it helps them survive better
What is speciation
The formation of new species as a result of evolution
What are the factors I can lead to speciation
Separation, adoption, reproductive isolation
Who is Charles Darwin
A man who figured out how evolution works and it proved natural selection to be true
Darwin knew that organisms inherit characteristics, but what did he not know about it?
How they could inherit the traits
What is natural selection
organisms that are able to adapt to their environment will be able to reproduce and pass on their traits to their offspring to their offspring then organisms cannot adapt to their environment
The four parts of natural selection are
Overproduction, inherited variation, struggle to survive, successful reproduction
