Evolution of the Eye Flashcards
1
Q
Features of the eye and order of evolution
A
- “pits” -> photoreceptive cell -> iris -> lens -> eyes
- lens is needed to accommodate light and provide a sharper image (curvature allows for direction of light to be detected, rather than in a flat membrane system)
2
Q
Box jellyfish
A
- eyes are clustered in diff. positions
- help detect positioning relative to the canopy above, based on presence of shadows
3
Q
Pupil shape in animals
A
- vertical: for shorter “ambush” predators
- horizontal: prey can scan terrain
