Q

why have levels of co2 decreased

A
  • locked up in sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels
  • absorbed by plants during photosynthesis
  • dissolved in oceans

3
Q

how to reduce emissions of co2

A

stop burning fossil fuels as the carbon fuels are released as co2

Q

how did levels of o2 rise

A

more plants evolved therefore, during photosynthesis, oxygen was released as a by product.

carbon dioxide+water–>oxygen+glucose

Q

effects of sulphur dioxide on atmosphere

A

causes sulphuric acid rain which can kill plants and damage buildings and statues-makes metal corrode. cause respiratory problems if breathed in.

Q

Describe the greenhouse effect.

A
  • energy from the sun travels to the earth as SHORT WAVELENGTH RADIATION.
  • some short wavelength radiation reflects back into space, this is because short wavelength radiation doesn’t react strongly with the gas molecules.
  • the energy of the radiation is absorbed when it reaches the earths surface.
  • the surface of the earth radiates the energy as long wavelength radiation.
  • energy in the long wavelength radiation is absorbed by the greenhouse gases.
  • temp of atmosphere rises.
