Evolution Of Behaviour Flashcards
1
Q
Whats the circadian rythem?
A
Circadian rythems tell an animals body when to sleep, eat, wake, etc. They are the physiological cue that regulate many of the bodily functions and are often influenced by external environmental cues. Circadian rythems often follow 24 hr cycles
2
Q
What factors influence circadian rythems?
A
~hormones ~day length ~temperature ~season ~diet ~presence of other animals
3
Q
What resources do animals compete for?
A
~food ~mates ~territory ~space ~water This is called selection pressures and lead to adaption/evolution
4
Q
Difference between development and evolution?
A
Development
~short term
~can take place within an animals lifetime
~can refer to how a specific behaviour advances as the animal gets older
Evolution ~long term ~takes place over generations ~evolution cannot take place during an animals lifetime ~refers to gradual changes
5
Q
Snow leopards don’t roar……
A
They let out a piercing yowl
