Evolution II Flashcards
Different evolutions
Evolution, micro evolution, macro evolution, Adaptive evolution
Evolution
Biological change over time
Micro evolution
Change in the genetic composition of a population over time
Macro evolution
evolution above species level that includes changes in the broad patterns of evolution and production of shared derived characteristics
Shared derived characteristics
new shared characteristics by other species
Genetic drift
random shift in allele frequency due to small population
Speciation
from one species to two
Pre zygotic reproductive barriers
habitat isolation, temporal ioletion (different mating times)
behavioral Isolatian (mating rituals) mechanical isolation (mating doesn’t work)
Post zygotic reproductive barriers
gamete isolation (gametes meet but no fertilization), reduce hybrid viability (die quickly), reduce hybrid fertility ( infertile), hybrid breakdown (eventually step working as well)
Sympatric speciation
formation of a new species in population that live in same geographie area
Allopathic speciation
formation of a new species in population that are geographically isolated from one another
Sympatric speciation examples
sexual selection, polyploidy,
Polyploidy
having multiple genomes
Sexual selection
natural selection that promotes mating fitness
auto polyploidy
extra genome by mistake in meiosis
