Evolution Flashcards
Adaptation
a feature of an organisms body which helps its survive
Radiation
energy carried by particles from a radioactive substance or spreading out from a source
Natural Selection
the process where organisms are better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring
Speciation
the formation of new, distinct species in evolution
Selective Advantage
the characteristic of an organism that enables it to survive and reproduce better than other organisms in a population
Isolation Barrier
A barrier which prevents exchange of genes from a species
Selection Pressures
The extent to which organisms having a characteristic are either eliminated of favoured by environmental demands
Mutations
random changes to genetic material
Alleles
two or more forms of a gene that (arise by mutations) and found at the same place as a chromosome
Fertile offspring
baby/child of an organism
Evolution
different kinds of organisms developed from earlier forms during the history of earth
