Evolution Flashcards
Evolution
Is the change in genetic composition of a population during successive generations may result in development of new species.
Evolutionary Radiation
An increase in taxonomic diversity that is caused by elevated rates of speciation, that may or may not be associated with an increase in morphological disparity.
Mass extinction
Is when a species vanish much faster than they are replaced.
Differentiate between evolutionary radiation and mass extinction
Evolutionary radiation is the increase in species population whereas mass extinction is the decrease in species population.
Microevolution
Microevolution is small-scale variation of allele frequencies within a
species or population, in which the descendant is of the same
taxonomic group as the ancestor.
Macroevolution
The variation of allele frequencies at or above the level of species over geological time.
