What is oversteer?
Takes place when the vehicles front wheels begin to plow straight despite turning the wheel.
What is understeer and when does it occur?
It’s when you fishtail/slide sideways. Can also happen with weather such as ice or rain.
What is trail braking?
When you reduce braking on a turn.
What is the apex?
The point in a turn where a vehicle comes closest to the innermost part of the available roadway
What is palming?
When you turn the steering wheel with the palm of your hand instead of gripping it with your fingers.
What is hand-over-hand?
where one hand crosses over the other to turn the steering wheel, providing better control and precision.
What is shuffle steering?
a technique that requires both hands while driving; often times we have a radio in our hands.
What is front end swing?
When you don’t have enough space for your front wheels to turn.
What is rear end cheat?
When you don’t have enough room for your back wheels.
What is a pivot point?
The fixed point around which a vehicle rotates during a turn. In shorter terms: pivot point = rear axle
What does it mean to feather?
tapping the brake or yas.
What is threshold braking?
braking as hard as possible without locking the wheels or the manual version of ABS braking.
What is reaction time?
how long it takes you to react.
What is perception time
how long it takes to to realize whats going on.
What is weight transfer and when does it happen?
the shifting of a car’s weight between its tires when accelerating, braking, or turning. Happens when counteracting understeer or oversteer.
