First Battle of St Albans
22nd May 1455
Somerset called for a council meeting at Leicester
York along with the other Nevilles marched to St Albans, intercepted royal party
York sent messengers to the king
Whilst messages were flowing in the town marketplace, Yorkists grew impatient
Men under Warwick attacked the barricades at the entrance
Yorkist archers fired into the street
Somerset, Clifford and Northumberland were hunted and killed

Audley raised an army of 10,000 blocking Salsibury’s path, who wished to join the Yorkists
Troops managed to break through Audley’s line
Audley killed and Salisbury was able to get to Ludlow

More forces sent to intercept Salisbury
Yorkists outnumbered 1 to 3
Tried justifying their actions with a letter to Henry
Henry’s court demanded that they beg royal pardon

Attained their heirs, barring them from succeeding their estates
Extreme nature appalled nobles, her government was illegitimate and she was going too far
