on 8 November 1923, Hitler hijacked a local government meeting and announced he was taking over Bavaria with the help of his colleague and war hero Ludendorff. The Nazi storm troopers fought against the Weimar police however lost in defeat. Hitler was charged with 5 years in prison for treason.
