Pre-Event: determine type and the events goals
- Script: specific, detailed, min-by-minute.

Tournaments
Purpose: determine a ranking of the participants.
Decisions to be made:
1. Do I want all player to play an equal # of games?
2. All games be closely contested or lopsided okay?
3. How important is it to now who comes in 1st or 5th?
4. How much time do I have?
5. How many facilities do I have?
Seeding
Process of ranking players/teams prior to tournament, based on relative ability.
- top two entries SHOULD meet in the final game/match
- higher entry ranked, closer to final they should be.
Single Elimination
If you lose your out, larger tournaments, fewer games.
Only one game guaranteed.
Based on power of 2 for teams (4/8/16/32) etc.
Double Elimination
time and playing areas are limited and final standings are important…
How many games by:
- (# of entries - 1) x 2 = Games
Multi Level (consolation)
No cross-overs if lost early to get back to the championship side.
Classes, intramurals, recreational settings.
Byes
- Occur when there are fewer players/teams than spaces in the tourney draw
- Top-ranked teams don’t play in first round
- Award byes in first round if not a power of two.
